Senator GRIMES (Minister for Community Services)(10.25) —I cannot accept the requests moved by Senator Vigor. I share his views on the activities of the tobacco companies and the ill effects of tobacco products but I do not believe that it is sensible to amend Budget legislation in this ad hoc way.

Senator Macklin —You believe it too, do you?

Senator GRIMES —It is too early in the morning to have to put up with Senator Macklin's nonsense. I shall pass Senator Vigor's views on to the Treasurer (Mr Keating) and the Minister involved but I do not think it is sensible to accept requests such as this which come off the top of Senator Vigor's head. As to expanded tobacco leaf, I understand that Senator Button is investigating that matter as Senator Vigor requested him to do and Senator Vigor will get a reply as soon as possible.
