Senator JONES —I move:

That the Senate take note of the paper.

On this list appears the report from the Standing Committee on Science, Technology and the Environment on land use policy, as it has appeared on similar lists over the last couple of years. The report was presented to the President on 23 January 1985 and tabled in the Senate on 21 February 1985. The report was the result of a long inquiry into a large, complicated and important subject. We were careful to concentrate on a few major issues that needed urgent attention, and our recommendations emphasised a small number of administrative measures which we believed to be feasible and which, when implemented, would have highly beneficial effects on land use throughout Australia. The Committee is disappointed that after almost two years a government response has not been received. It is a complicated matter, with many responsible authorities involved, but our recommendations were clear, concise and realistic. We look forward to receiving a response in the near future.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
