Senator GIETZELT —On 15 October 1986 Senator Bjelke-Petersen asked me a question regarding the proposed international terminal and hotel development at Brisbane Airport. The Minister for Aviation advises me that a hotel/motel complex has always formed part of his Department's development plans for the new Brisbane Airport. Following an invitation for expressions of interest in April 1986 for a hotel/motel complex tenders were called in July 1986. Tender documents were forwarded to each organisation registering an expression of interest. When tenders closed three submissions had been received including one proposing a combined hotel and international terminal. This was assessed as a non-conforming tender. Only one tender conformed with the requirements. Independent legal advice was that the two non-conforming tenders could not be accepted. Negotiations have therefore proceeded with the organisation which submitted the conforming tender. A copy of the Press release from the Minister for Aviation will be made available to Senator Bjelke-Petersen.
