Senator ELSTOB —I direct my question to the Minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs. Is the Minister aware of any plans to hold Aboriginal festivals either before or during the bicentennial program? Does the Minister agree that festivals with Aboriginal art, music, fashion, entertainment and cultural displays would help greatly to demystify the long-standing community ignorance of Aboriginal history and culture?

Senator GRIMES —I certainly agree with Senator Elstob that that sort of display would be of use in increasing the knowledge of the non-Aboriginal community of this country of the history, traditions and culture of the Aboriginal community. But I have no knowledge of, or any brief on, any such intentions by the Department of Aboriginal Affairs. I will refer Senator Elstob's suggestion to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs for comment.
