We, the undersigned concerned Australian citizens hereby petition the Honourable Senators to totally reject the current proposals for an I.D. Card and the proposed Data Protection Agency.

We believe that they represent potentially undesirable interference in the lives of honest Australians. Provisions for protection of individual privacy cannot be guaranteed as Statutes are easily altered by future Governments.

We believe that there are more efficient methods to prevent fraud in the areas of taxation and social security without the use of these two proposals, which go well beyond the reach of the true role of democratic government, i.e. That citizens may live quiet and peaceable lives. The I.D. Card and Data Protection Agency have strong potential under this or future administrations to interfere with the quiet and peaceable lives of its subjects.

We, your humble petitioners, in duty bound ever pray.
