Senator KILGARIFF —I direct a question to the Minister for Resources and Energy. I refer to the Government's decision that there will be no mining within stages 1 and 2 of Kakadu National Park. In fairness to the mining companies which have spent millions of dollars exploring within the park and which have been given undertakings in the past regarding their rights to explore and develop their interests, does the Government intend to compensate these companies for the considerable actual and prospective losses they will suffer because of the Government's decision?
