To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth that:

(i) the welfare of many employees and their families depends upon a healthy, expanding gold mining industry;

(ii) the success of many small businesses in gold mining towns also depends upon the continued profitability of gold mining and prospecting operations;

(iii) the Federal Government's proposal to introduce a tax on gold mining and prospecting represent a threat to the profitability of these industries and will therefore cause widespread unemployment and depression throughout the whole gold mining industry.

Your petitioners therefore call upon the Federal Government to reject any proposal to introduce a tax on gold mining or prospecting thereby ensuring that the spectacular growth of the industry over recent years is continued.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
