Senator VIGOR(9.36) —A copy of the letter that was sent to Senator Chaney by Senator Button was delivered to us. I went through calculations, with which I do not want to bore the Committee, which were given to me by the manufacturers. They believe that some of the figures were out by factors of around 200 per cent and by 300 per cent in some of the cases, on the figures they gathered. This would have brought the bounty up to 10.8 per cent even if the figures were conservative. I was much more convinced by the detailed figures that were given to me by the consultants and by certain industry people on a confidential basis; unfortunately I cannot reveal them because they would give information about the particular commercial activities of these people. I was convinced that there was a problem to be answered. On behalf of the Australian Democrats, I also ask Senator Grimes that the figures be given to us.

Amendments negatived.

Bill agreed to.
