Senator COLLARD —I refer the Minister representing the Minister for Aviation to the explanatory notes of the Department of Housing and Construction for new capital civil works for the Department of Aviation which show the only amount to be spent on the Brisbane Airport as $300,000, which is for the relocation of the duty free shop and a new gift shop at the international terminal. I refer to the Minister for Transport's Press release of 9 November in which he states that $1.5m will be spent in upgrading Brisbane's international airport terminal. Where is the extra money coming from? What has changed since the August Budget to warrant the Government's change of mind to spend money on what will ever only be an inadequate terminal? In the light of this extra expenditure why did this Government not accept the proposal by a private company to build a terminal and a hotel complex, as asked by Senator Bjelke-Petersen and not yet answered? Are there any other extra Budget aerodrome capital works programs proposed? If so, is Rockhampton one of them and, if it is, will the Government build a new terminal and not waste money on an inadequate old one?

Senator GIETZELT —It is pretty clear that that is a detailed question asking about matters that are very much irrelevant to the Minister for Aviation's portfolio responsibilities. I am not in a position to respond at all to the precise questions. They are quite legitimate and I will seek an early response for the honourable senator and, I hope, get a response for him before Question Time is over today.
