Senator REID(8.11) —I have not heard from anyone at Duntroon. I happen to be a patron of the Canberra Rifle Club. Its members have been in contact with me about this matter. There is a vastly different accounting procedure between recurrent expenditure and getting rid of assets. The Minister for Finance (Senator Walsh) dealt with a question about flogging off assets in an answer on 23 October. That is a quite different matter. The second part of what I asked the Minister for Community Services (Senator Grimes), which he did not address, was: If this area is to be sold, can it be retained until the Australian Bicentenary Fullbore Rifle Championships have taken place in April 1988? Can this range be used for that purpose or must those people organising the championships cancel forthwith those events and put the arrangements totally to one side? That is a fairly simple question. I would have thought that it could have been answered easily in the affirmative that, yes, the area can be retained for that event in 1988.
