Senator MacGIBBON(9.00) —I refer to the Estimates Committee E hearing relating to the estimates for the Department of Defence. One of the first questions asked of the Department related to the strength of the Army Reserve. We were given a figure of 24,170, which was the number on strength in the Army Reserve at the end of February. That figure is lower than the numbers on strength for the Reserve before the expansion took place under Mr Killen four Ministers ago. We were told that there were some details of an advertising program to increase recruitment. Will the Minister advise whether any details are available on what that advertising program will be? Will it be in the form of the old program, which was so successful, or will it be a new program? In particular, is there any substance to the rumours that the Prime Minister (Mr Hawke) himself will appear in the advertising program?
