Senator GRIMES (Minister for Community Services)(10.26) —All I can say is that every year I have been shadow Minister for Social Security, Minister for Social Security or Minister for Community Services the number of people on invalid pensions has gone up by about that amount. However, we are talking about the additional appropriations tonight; we are not talking about the Forward Estimates. If honourable senators want to debate the Forward Estimates they should debate them at the proper time. I do not have the Forward Estimates with me now. The only reason we are debating this matter under the estimates for the Department of Finance is that Senator Messner and his colleagues were too late to come in here to debate it under the Department of Social Security.

Progress reported.
