Senator COLLARD(5.14) —As I indicated in the debate on the second reading of the Australian Dried Fruits Corporation Amendment Bill, we will not support the Australian Democrats amendment and we will not be voting for clause 3 of the Bill. I reiterate that in 1978, because of the cost structure of a small industry, the Australian Dried Fruits Corporation Board was reduced from 12 members to eight. Like Senator Macklin, I can see no reason to increase the numbers on the Corporation. The increasing of the Corporation numbers has put members other than growers on that Corporation. We are not in agreement with that. Senator Macklin's amendment seeks to put back a grower majority but still leave the Corporation numbers at 10. By not voting for Senator Macklin's amendment and by not supporting clause 3 generally we are indicating that we want the numbers on the Corporation to stay the same; that is, eight members-four growers, one chairman, one government representative and two members with special expertise.
