Senator BUTTON (Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce)(4.08) —in reply-I thank the two honourable senators who have contributed to the discussion on the Fishing Legislation Amendment Bill 1985 and related Bill for the support for the legislation which they have offered. I particularly comment on Senator Boswell's speech because someone once said that even death is a learning experience. I certainly learnt something about the fishing industry-particularly the northern prawn fleet-from Senator Boswell's speech and that was helpful to me. The point that Senator Boswell made about the tax ruling seems to have a lot of validity. It is one which ought to be examined closely by the Government and I will see that that is done. The honourable senator would appreciate that a tax ruling that was brought down, I think, last week is not necessarily something which is susceptible to remedial action four or five days later, but it is certainly one that I will have looked at. I will refer the comments which Senator Boswell made to the appropriate department.

My knowledge of the fishing industry is about as profound as that of some other senators about a lot of other things. I do not wish to speak at any length about the legislation. It is an important reform and I think it is recognised that it represents an important reform. I am glad that it is supported by the Senate. I commend the Bills for a speedy passage.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Bills read a second time.
