Senator ARCHER —My question is directed to the Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce. Is the Government having second thoughts about the assistance to inventors scheme? Does the Minister see the scheme as being extremely useful as a first incentive to foster invention? Can he assure the Senate that the Government will not abandon encouragement of this kind to Australian inventors?

Senator BUTTON —The Government is having second thoughts about the assistance to inventors scheme, simply on the basis that any such scheme has to be constantly subject to review, but if the Government foreshadows or intends any change in the scheme an announcement will be made at the appropriate time.
