Senator SCOTT (Leader of the National Party of Australia)(9.34) —It seems a pity that Senator Macklin takes the view that he does. After all, this is a simple, straight-out proposition which is the objective, as I understand it, of the Australian Wheatgrowers Federation. All it attempts to do is to bring the final selection from each specific State closer to being the total province of the people in the industry who belong to that State. That seems a perfectly sensible and logical approach. I think it is a pity that, in this circumstance, we shall not be able to adopt the recommendations and desires of the industry itself. I think Senator Collard's amendment should be supported on the grounds of logic and on the grounds that it represents the desires of the Wheatgrowers Federation.

Question put:

That the amendments (Senator Collard's) be agreed to.
