(Question No. 186)

Senator Reynolds asked the Minister for Community Services, upon notice, on 28 March 1985:

(1) What recognition is the new Community Services Department giving to regional development in establishing personnel and offices throughout Australia.

(2) Will the Department give special consideration to the highly decentralised nature of Queensland and establish positions in major regional cities to facilitate more effective communications and reduce travel budgets.

Senator Grimes —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

(1) The Department of Community Services (DCS) has no immediate plans to establish regional offices outside State capitals. The Department already has some regional capability through its Rehabilitation Centres.

(2) Once the Department has been fully established, the question of establishment of greater regional capability will be further considered.
