Senator TATE —I seek leave to make a statement as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs on current references.

Leave granted.

Senator TATE —I indicate that the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee has decided to continue with the three matters referred to it, but not disposed of, in previous sessions. The three matters are: Continuing oversight of the implementation of reports of the Law Reform Commission; National Service Amendment Bill 1983; and the joint opinion dated 23 August 1983 of the then Attorney-General and the Solicitor-General given to the Royal Commission on Australia's Security and Intelligence Agencies concerning a statement made in the South Australian Parliament by the Hon. Peter Duncan, MLA. I indicate to honourable senators that the Committee hopes to be in a position to present reports during May on the National Service Amendment Bill 1983 and on the joint opinion.
