To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled.

The petition of the undersigned citizens of the Northern Territory respectfully showeth:

1. That we are deeply concerned that the redevelopment of the Darwin International Airport is not to continue on schedule.

2. That failure to complete the project will do great damage to the Northern Territory's, and Australia's, tourism industry.

3. That the north of the Northern Territory will be left with a totally inadequate airport to service its resident population.

4. That general aviation facilities and industry will be adversely affected by failure to continue with the redevelopment.

5. That the RAAF Base in Darwin will be hampered by failure to continue with the redevelopment, which could result in interference with effective defence procedures for the north of Australia.

Your petitioners most humbly pray that the Senate, in Parliament assembled, should ensure the Commonwealth stands by its commitment to complete the redevelopment of Darwin International Airport by the scheduled completion date of 1988.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
