Senator VIGOR —I draw the attention of the Minister representing the Minister for Transport to the front page story in today's Adelaide Advertiser which is headed 'SA rail services threatened'. I ask: Is it the case that a decision on the future of South Australia's country rail services will be made tomorrow-

Senator Messner —We have already had that question.

Senator VIGOR —It is a different question. Is there to be a decision by the Australian National Railways Commission before there has been any consultation with either the unions or major customers such as the United Farmers and Stockowners of South Australia? If so, why is Australian National management making such a major decision without consulting all interested groups, which cuts completely across the stated policy of Australian National and of this Government?

Senator RYAN —As I advised Senator Bolkus when he asked a similar question arising from media reports regarding a proposed change of policy in regard to Australian National, the matter has been referred to the Department of Transport. As soon as an explanation and information are available, I will make them available to both Senator Bolkus and Senator Vigor.
