Senator BROWNHILL —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Defence. Is it a fact that the Department of Defence is about to announce the siting of an Army infantry training course and artillery range in the Orange-Bathurst area, as reported in the Daily Telegraph this morning? Can the Minister advise the House when the announcement of an area will be made? Does the Government intend to adhere to the promises of the Prime Minister that no productive land will be taken for Defence Department proposals and that it has no intention of forcibly dispossessing people?

Senator GARETH EVANS —I am advised by the Minister that no decision has yet been announced but that a decision will be announced soon.
