Senator BOLKUS —Can the Minister representing the Minister for Transport say whether there is any truth in media reports in South Australia in recent days which suggest that Australian National Railways Commission intends to phase out gradually all country passenger services in that State, with the exception of the Mount Gambier service? Further, is the Minister aware of other far sweeping changes planned by Australian National, including the abolition of country freight services in South Australia by 1987-88? Can the Minister say what the Government's response is to these reported changes?

Senator RYAN —I will have to refer that matter to the Department of Transport for a speedy answer. I will inform Senator Bolkus of it as soon as possible.
