Senator AULICH —My question is addressed to the Minister representing the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Environment. I refer to attacks by the Tasmanian Premier on the register of the National Estate and its effects on Tasmanian development. Is the Minister aware that the Premier has described the register as a Commonwealth takeover and land grab, et cetera? Is the Minister aware of the open letter placed by Mr Cohen in the Tasmanian media outlining the truth about the register of the National Estate?

Senator RYAN —I have a brief concerning the Tasmanian World Heritage listing, but I do not think it addresses the issues raised in Senator Aulich's question. What information I have concerns the arrangements made for the management authority of the World Heritage area rather than the various complaints in this regard. I think I should seek detailed information from the Minister in response to Senator Aulich's question.
