Senator GIETZELT —Earlier in Question Time Senator Jessop asked me a question on a matter about which I had no particular knowledge, but I have been advised by the Minister for Transport who was aware of the matter that was raised by Senator Jessop.

The Minister has advised me that the Government is aware of the concern of the shipowners, the exporters and the agents about the problems that have developed in Sydney which require the shipowners to make extensive repairs to overseas vessels. The Government is aware that these incidents can cause unnecessary delays on the waterfront, adversely affecting our international reputation as a trading partner and also, of course, adding to costs. However, the Minister for Transport has advised me that the problem is essentially an industrial one. He has already discussed the matter with his colleague the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Mr Willis. As yet he is not able to give any further information as to what course of action the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations can take.
