(Question No. 53)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 28 February 1985:

What have been the costs to date per head of freight each way and itemised services as detailed by the Department of Primary Industry for quarantined livestock at Cocos Island for:

(a) goats;

(b) sheep; and

(c) cattle

Senator Walsh —The Minister for Primary Industry has provided the following answer to the honourable member's question:

The costs involved in the importation of livestock through the Cocos Island Animal Quarantine Station are primarily a matter between the importer, the exporter and the importing agent. My Department's involvement is limited to supervision and oversight of the preparation of animals in the country of origin and the actual quarantine at the Cocos Island facility.
