(Question No. 3)

Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Trade, upon notice, on 22 February 1985:

(1) What contracts have been entered into between the Department of Trade and the firm of Dun and Bradstreet in each of the last five years.

(2) What has been the purpose of such contracts and what has been the amount of money paid to Dun and Bradstreet in each instance.

Senator Button —The Minister for Trade has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) There are no contracts but see below.

(2) The Department purchases Dun and Bradstreet's 'Exporters Encyclopaedia' annually. In addition, commercial status reports on importers or potential importers are obtained on an ad-hoc basis, mostly by Trade Commissioners acting as agents for the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, Australian exporters or, occasionally, the Department. Some are obtained from Dun and Bradstreet, and the cost is normally recovered from the originator of the request.
