Senator REID(3.54) —This report deals with the activities of the Bush Fire Council in 1983-84, when it was fairly busy. Certainly, it is always busy during the summer season with spotting and monitoring activities. Recently it has had a particularly busy time. It has been carrying out spotting and monitoring activities and it has been fighting the bushfires which have threatened a lot of properties in recent weeks. The Canberra Festival awarded the Australian Capital Territory fire fighters the Canberran of the Year award for this year. I think that was something that was applauded by all of us in Canberra. Many of them are volunteers, and some of them are employed as fire fighters. Certainly for those who have been out fighting and for those who have been supporting them, it has been a very busy season indeed.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
