Senator MASON(3.41) —Mr Acting Deputy President, I think we have a chaotic situation here.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT (Senator Townley) —It seems pretty straightforward to me.

Senator MASON —Is it not a fact that we will resume consideration of papers at a later hour this day? I thought that further time was to be given to precipitate consideration of these papers. I wanted to speak to one of the papers tabled yesterday.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT —As I understand it, the papers are listed to be dealt with under General Business if we get that far through the business sheet.

Senator MASON —I just raise the point--

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT —Senator Mason, I am sure that the Senate can do exactly what it wants to when it gets to that point and can change the situation if it needs to do so. I am sure that if we get to that point and you want to speak to a paper the Senate will arrange it.

Senator MASON —I conclude by saying that if we agree to Senator Lewis's motion all papers tabled yesterday and today will be disposed of. I do not want that situation. I want to speak to one of the papers.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT —I am sure that the Senate will accommodate you later in the day.
