Senator GIETZELT —In Question Time on 28 February I was asked by Senator McKiernan a question regarding the decision by the legal representatives of the Vietnam Veterans Association not to attend the last public sitting day of the Royal Commission into the Use and Effects of Chemical Agents on Australian Personnel in Vietnam. It could be inferred from my answer to that question that the instructing solicitors of the Vietnam Veterans Association were guilty of abrogating their responsibilities to their clients. I unreservedly withdraw any suggestion of impropriety on the part of the solicitors and assure the Senate that my criticism of the legal counsel did not extend to the instructing solicitors.
