Senator CHANEY —If that is the view of the Minister for Finance on the size of Parliament and the number of politicians, why did he support the increase in the size of the national Parliament-the House of Representatives and the Senate?

Senator WALSH —I did not express a view as to whether there were too many politicians. I just drew attention to the parliament in Australia, if it can be called that, which has, by a factor of 5:1, a higher ratio of politicians to population than any other parliament in Australia. That parliament was created as a territorial parliament by the previous Liberal Government of which Senator Chaney was a Minister.
