Motion (by Senator Elstob)-by leave-agreed to:

That, notwithstanding anything contained in the Standing Orders, and to enable the Senate Standing Committee on Social Welfare to complete its inquiry into children under institutional and other forms of care and its inquiry into Australia's retirement income systems, the Committee consist of 8 Senators, 4 being members of the Government to be nominated by the Leader of the Government in the Senate, and 4 being Senators who are not members of the Government, to be nominated by the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate or by any minority group or groups or independent Senator or independent Senators.


The DEPUTY PRESIDENT —I inform the Senate that the President has received letters from the Leader of the Government in the Senate and the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate relating to membership of the Standing Committee on Social Welfare advising that they have nominated Senators Cook and Bjelke-Petersen to be members of the Committee.

Motion (by Senator Grimes)-by leave-agreed to:

That Senators Bjelke-Petersen and Cook, having been duly nominated in accordance with the Resolution of the Senate of this day, be appointed members of the Standing Committee on Social Welfare.
