Senator Reid asked the Minister representing the Minister for Home Affairs and Environment, upon notice, on 3 October 1984:

In respect of the Minister's Department and statutory authorities responsible to the Minister:

(a) how many motor vehicles did they own before 2 March 1983;

(b) how many motor vehicles do they now own;

(c) how many motor vehicles have they purchased since March 1983;

(d) what type, size and make of motor vehicles have they purchased.

(e) what was the individual and total cost of these vehicles; and

(f) for what purpose were the vehicles purchased.


Senator Ryan —The Minister for Home Affairs and Environment has provided the following answers to the honourable senator's question:

The Department and some statutory authorities hire all of their motor vehicles from the Department of Administrative Services which has advised that, in respect of vehicles on hire, the Minister for Administrative Services will respond on behalf of all Ministers.

The following details are provided in respect of statutory authorities which own their motor vehicles.

(i) Australian Bicentennial Authority

(a) The number of motor vehicles owned by the Authority before 2 March 1983 was 10.

(b) The number of motor vehicles currently owned is 16.

(c) The number of motor vehicles purchased since 2 March 1983 was 15.

(d) The type, size and make of motor vehicles which were purchased is included in the answer to (e).

(e) The individual and the total cost of the motor vehicles is as follows:

(ii) Australian Film Commission

(a) The number of motor vehicles owned by the Commission before 2 March 1983 was 7.

(b) The number of motor vehicles currently owned is 9.

(c) The number of motor vehicles purchased since 2 March 1983 was 8.

(d) The type, size and make of motor vehicles which were purchased is included in the answer (e).

(e) The individual and the total cost of the motor vehicles is as follows:

(a) The number of motor vehicles owned by the school before 2 March 1983 was 2.

(b) The number of motor vehicles currently owned is 2.

(c) The number of motor vehicles purchased since 2 March 1983 was 1.

(d) The type, size and make of motor vehicles which were purchased is included in the answer to (e).

(e) The individual and the total cost of the motor vehicles is as follows:

(iv) Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority

(c) The number of motor vehicles purchased since 2 March 1983 was 2.

(d) The type, size and make of motor vehicles which were purchased is included in the answer to (e).

(b) The number of motor vehicles now owned is 23.

(c) The number of motor vehicles purchased since 2 March 1983 was 2.

(d) The type, size and make of motor vehicles which were purchased is included in the answer to (e).

(vi) Australian Parks and Wildlife Services

(b) The number of motor vehicles currently owned is 99.

(c) The number of motor vehicles purchased since 2 March 1983 was 24.

(d) The type, size and make of motor vehicle which were purchased is included in the answer to (e).

(e) The individual and the total cost of the motor vehicle is as follows:
