Senator Reid asked the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 4 October 1984:

In respect of the Minister's Department and statutory authorities responsible to the Minister:

(a) how many motor vehicles did they own before 2 March 1983;

(b) how many motor vehicles do they now own;

(c) how many motor vehicles have they purchased since 2 March 1983;

(d) what type, size and make of motor vehicles have they purchased;

(e) what was the individual and total of those vehicles; and

(f) for what purposes were the vehicles purchased.


Senator Gareth Evans —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

The National Companies and Securities Commission, which is jointly funded by the Federal and State governments, and the Australian Institute of Criminology are the only organisations within my portfolio which own vehicles. The relevant details are:

(a) Five;

(b) five;

(c) two replacement vehicles;

(d) Mazda 626, 4 cylinder sedan, and Commodore 6 cylinder station sedan;

(e) $19,739 (Mazda $10,195 and Holden $9,544);

(f) for official use by officers employed in the organisations.
