Senator Bolkus asked the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 24 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.


Senator Gareth Evans —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

(1) and (2) As at 1 September 1984, my Department employed 442 keyboard staff including court reporting typists, and of this number 104 persons have been, or are, off work due to repetition strain injury.
