(1) What was the total number of employees of the Commonwealth Government and its statutory authorities in January 1984 or the latest available month.

(2) What was the total number of employees of the Commonwealth Government and its statutory authorities in South Australia in January 1984 or the latest available month.

(3) By how much did employment fall, and in which departments and statutory authorities in South Australia, from January 1980 to January 1984 and from May 1983 to January 1984.

Senator Walsh —The Treasurer has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) The total number of employees of the Commonwealth Government and its statutory authorities in March 1984 was 422,100.
