Senator MESSNER —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate notes with approval the release of the Liberal and National parties' social security policy, in particular-

(a) the introduction of a family choice rebate, a child care rebate and the commitment that sole parents will, through a combination of an extension to the sole parent's rebate and the child care rebate receive an equivalent benefit;

(b) its commitment to continue to provide assistance to the range of child care centres and to provide additional subsidies to low income families and individuals with special needs;

(c) its commitment to support needy families with children with special problems (particularly disabled children) with respite care for both short and long terms;

(d) its commitment to institute a pilot study into the provision of privately owned and operated child care centres to establish their feasibility to provide services to low income and regionally deprived families; and

(e) the thrust of the policy is to support families with children, thus putting Australians first and standing up for families.
