To the honourable the President and Members of the Senate in Parliament House assembled. The petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth that the Australian Labor Party:

'Is committed to the elimination of nuclear weapons and the ultimate achievement of general and complete disarmament' (ALP Platform 1984, 12E);

and will:

'promote the development of zones of peace and nuclear free zones in the Indian and Pacific Oceans' (ALP Platform 1984, 12E.34);

'oppose the development and acquisition of nuclear, chemical, bacteriological or other weapons of mass destruction for Australia's Armed Forces; nor permit any foreign government to station such weapons on Australian soil' (ALP Platform 1984, 12F.41);

and

'oppose the storage of nuclear weapons on Australian territory and the staging of operations involving nuclear weapons from Australian territory' (ALP Platform 1984, 12F.48).

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that all Federal representatives of the Labor Government, and Federal representatives of all other political parties including independents, vote for Senator Chipp's Nuclear Weapons Prohibitions Bill 1984, the passage of which would effectively make Australia a nuclear weapons free zone and would leave no doubt as to the present Government's stated commitment to disarmament.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
