[COGNATE DEBATE:

ROYAL COMMISSION ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE FEDERATED SHIP PAINTERS AND DOCKERS UNION]

Senator Durack-Mr President, I wonder whether it would be convenient to take the two motions standing in my name cognately, as they deal broadly with the same problems.

Senator Button-I do not know whether any discussions have been held between the Attorney-General (Senator Gareth Evans) and Senator Durack. It would seem sensible in a prima facie way that they should be dealt with cognately.

Senator Gareth Evans-Yes.

The PRESIDENT —Is it the wish of the Senate to have a cognate debate covering these two measures? There being no objection, I will allow that course to be followed. Separate questions, of course, will be put on the two measures.
