Senator TOWNLEY —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) aware that uranium is a relatively common metal and widely distributed around the world;

(b) well aware that Australia is not the only source of uranium and a policy of non-supply to the world market will not stop nuclear power stations being constructed and operated; and

(c) convinced that more and more countries will move into the nuclear field over the coming decade,

is of the opinion that a policy of restricting development of uranium mines within Australia is a policy out of touch with reality, and one which can only damage the economy of Australia at a time when the price of many of our exports is dropping.
