(Question No. 1076)


Senator Bolkus asked the Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, upon notice, on 23 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.


Senator Ryan —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

(1) 153 full-time and part-time keyboard staff were employed by the Department as at 1 September 1984. This figure includes clerical assistant staff who operate keyboards as part of their duties as well as word processors, stenographers and typists.

(2) 34 staff had been or were off work as at 1 September 1984 with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.
