Senator KILGARIFF —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate is of the opinion that-

(a) the Federal Government should take note of the submission prepared by the Northern Territory Government and the Alice Springs Municipal Council, in conjunction with the Alice Springs Airport planning consultants, regarding the local ownership proposal for Alice Springs Airport; and

(b) the Federal Government give priority consideration to providing funds for the upgrading of Alice Springs Airport to international standard so that the airport can be proved viable and provide the facilities necessary:

(i) for the increasing numbers of tourists, both national and international, travelling to and from Central Australia,

(ii) for the numerous aircraft, which fly both east-west and north-south in the area, and which emanate from most capital cities, and

(iii) to complement the new international tourist destination at Yalara, Ayers Rock.
