Senator Jones asked the Minister representing the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 21 August 1984:

(1) Is any land currently being considered by the Defence Forces for acquisition in Queensland; if so, where and what areas of land are being considered.


Senator Gareth Evans —The Minister for Defence has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

The following table shows the location and area of land currently being considered for acquisition on behalf of the Defence Force in Queensland.

LAND BEING CONSIDERED FOR ACQUISITION ON BEHALF OF THE DEFENCE FORCE IN QUEENSLAND

Brisbane Land adjoining HMAS Moreton 0.8ha

Amberley Land adjoining RAAF Base About 200ha have already been acquired. A further 500ha is yet to be acquired.

Southport Army Reserve Depot site 2ha are to be acquired. Settlement is expected in November 1984.

Rockhampton Army Reserve staging area 23.9ha are expected to be acquired in this financial year.

Townsville Base entrance 0.4ha are expected to be acquired within the next few months.

Townsville Possible alternate site to RAAF Clevedon About 660ha will be required. Acquisition is planned for 1987-88. The site has not yet been identified.

Halifax Bay Air Weapons Range 20ha of the range have already been acquired. A further 60ha for which negotiations with the State Government are still underway, are planned for acquisition.

Cabarlah Communication Station Buffer Zone Area yet to be determined.
