Senator MACKLIN —I address my question to the Minister representing the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations. Has the passage yesterday of a Bill to allow political parties to authorise untrue and deceptive advertising enabled the Government to take out full page advertisements such as the one published on page 7 of today's Australian? Can the Minister inform the Senate how the two figures used in that advertisement were calculated? Does the advertisement misleadingly make comparisons between a financial year under the Labor Government and a calendar year under the previous Fraser Government? Are the figures used consistent in other respects? Does the Government, in subsequent advertisements, intend to give equal publicity to the tragic and horrible reality that there are well in excess of 600,000 Australians now unemployed?

Senator BUTTON —I do not agree with the description of the legislation passed yesterday, which is based on a rather churlish historical view of the Australian Democrats. I have not seen the advertisement to which Senator Macklin refers. The honourable senator asked a number of questions relating to this matter. I will obtain an answer for him as soon as possible.
