(Question No. 1078)


Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 23 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.


Senator Gareth Evans —The Minister for Defence has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) The Department of Defence employs 1361 staff in the categories of word processor operators, stenographers and typists.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, 151 of these staff were, or had been off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.
