Senator MESSNER —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting , I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) condemns the Hawke Government for its false and misleading advertisements for Medicare, in particular:

(i) the claim that 'Medicare provides everyone with the essential health insurance cover they need, and

(ii) the further claim that 'For all Medicare services you have the right to choose your own doctor.';

(b) notes that:

(i) Medicare does not provide essential health insurance for those people who need physiotherapy, dental or other specialised health services, and

(ii) Medicare does not allow free choice of doctor in hospital unless additional private insurance is held; and

(c) calls on the Hawke Labor Government to clearly indicate to Australians the real nature of Medicare.
