Senator HARRADINE(6.55) —I oppose the motion to suspend standing orders, but not for the reasons latterly expressed by Senator Georges. I believe that it is setting a bad precedent. I know that on this occasion it is not meant to hijack a situation and that it is a genuine matter of concern, but I have to say that the Committee can sit tomorrow. Under the Senate's resolution it has to report by tomorrow. It can sit at 10 o'clock tomorrow. Notice could be given today and we could deal with the notice of motion tomorrow afternoon, after the Committee concluded its hearing, and debate it then.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Motion (by Senator Tate) proposed:

(1) That the time for the Select Committee on Allegations Concerning a Judge to report be extended

(2) That the Committee report as soon as possible.
