Senator FOREMAN —In accordance with the provisions of the Public Works Committee Act, I present the report relating to improvements to on- base housing at the Royal Australian Air Force Base, Darwin, Northern Territory.

Ordered that the report be printed.

Senator FOREMAN —by leave-The proposal referred to the Public Works Committee is for the refurbishment of 248 on-base married quarters at the RAAF Base, Darwin, which are below acceptable maintenance and structural standards. The Committee was concerned that the proposal submitted to it did not adequately meet the accommodation needs of married RAAF personnel posted to Darwin. As a consequence of its oft expressed concern that Service personnel should be provided with houses of a standard approaching those available to them in the civil community, the Committee has recommended certain additional works to improve the standard of these houses, reduced the number of houses to be improved under the proposal to 148 and recommended that 100 new houses be constructed.
