Senator GARETH EVANS (Attorney-General)(10.15) —by leave-I move:

(1) Page 2, proposed new paragraph 7B (1) (a), lines 6 and 7, leave out 'by Letters Patent dated 25 June 1981 to be a Commissioner to make inquiry into certain matters', insert 'by the Governor of the State of New South Wales by Letters Patent dated 24 June 1981 to be a Commissioner to make inquiry into certain matters and by the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth by Letters Patent dated 25 June 1981 to be a Commissioner to make inquiry into certain matters'.

(2) Page 2, proposed new sub-section 7B (31), line 27, leave out 'the inquiry', insert 'any inquiry'.

The amendments are just to ensure that Mr Justice Stewart will receive the document not only in his capacity as a Commonwealth royal commissioner but also in his capacity as a royal commissioner appointed under the law in New South Wales. It will be recalled that there are joint Letters Patent establishing the drug trafficking royal commission reference for Mr Justice Stewart. It was inadvertently omitted in a first draft of this legislation. It was just desired to clarify that small point.
