Senator KILGARIFF —Is the Minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs aware of a report that, out of moneys provided by the Aboriginal Development Commission to the Tangentyere Council, an amount in excess of $20, 000 has been used to erect pre-fabricated buildings at Karga Well on Tempe Downs in the Northern Territory without the consent of the owners? Can the Minister advise me whether it is correct that the Central Land Council has not been prepared to discuss this squatting on alienated land with the representatives of the pastoral lease? Does the Minister condone this action of using what are presumably Government funds? Who authorised the payment of the moneys to erect these buildings? Will the Government refer this reported misuse of taxpayers' money to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Expenditure for consideration in the context of its current inquiry into the efficiency and effectiveness of expenditure by the Aboriginal Development Commission?

Senator RYAN —I do not have any information on the specific matter to which Senator Kilgariff's question refers. I will refer the matter to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and seek a response for the honourable senator.
