(Question No. 1131)

Senator Kilgariff asked the Minister representing the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, upon notice, on 7 September 1984:

(1) Is the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations aware of the News Weekly report of 22 August 1984, detailing the allocation of $413 000 in community employment program (CEP) funds to groups currently blockading the Roxby Downs uranium mine.

(2) Are these 'job creation' funds used to provide support to organisations which aim to destroy 18 000 jobs to be generated by the Roxby Downs mine.

(3) Does the Minister consider that a misuse of community employment program funds is occurring; if so, what action will the Minister take to ensure that community employment program funds are used for the purposes of job creation and not job destruction.

Senator Button —The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Yes.

(2) No. Although a number of groups listed in the article have received CEP funds, any implication that CEP funds have been used to fund the Roxby Downs blockade is incorrect.

(3) No.
